The Ukrainian Hand-to-Hand Combat Championship among adults took place on March 6-7 in Kyiv. Athletes from all over Ukraine took part in the competition. This is one of the largest and most spectacular sporting events organized by the All-Ukrainian Hand-to-Hand Combat Federation. Hand-to-hand combat is an integral part of the training of military and law enforcement officers.
More than 200 strongest fighters from 20 regions of the country took part in the team tournament. Athletes competed in the sections “dosed contact”, where it is allowed to strike with hands, feet, make throws, painful and suffocating techniques, “light contact”, kata, demonstrated techniques of self-defense with or without weapons.
The championship of Ukraine was held with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.
“The Ukrainian Championship is an outstanding event for the sport. Hand-to-hand combat today is the kind of sports that is developing most dynamically in all important areas, both as a kind of sports of the highest achievements and as a mass kind of sports, which is practiced by thousands of boys and girls of all ages. It is important that the Federation deals with military and patriotic education of children and youth, develops them physically and mentally,” said the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Matvii Bidnyi.
The regional national teams include the best athletes, winners of international tournaments, military personnel, representatives of law enforcement agencies, in particular, the State Security Department, the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Bureau of Investigation, the State Customs Service, the National Police and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine.
“Based on the results of the competition, the national team has been selected, which will soon begin preparations for international tournaments. First of all, to the World Cup, where we have a plan to take the first place. Moreover, we have already begun preparations for the President’s Cup of Ukraine which will take place in August this year within the limits of celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Independence of Ukraine”, noted the President of the All-Ukrainian Hand-to-Hand Combat Federation, Yurii Radchenko.
In turn, the 1st vice-president of the All-Ukrainian Hand-to-Hand Combat Federation, Andrii Kmita added: “The elite of our kid of sports, the strongest fighters from all over Ukraine, took part in the Championship of Ukraine. This tournament was held at the highest organizational level, we can say that we had a rehearsal before the President’s Cup and the World Cup. We are waiting for a sports year full of rating and prestigious international competitions.”
Consequently, according to the results of the competition, the national team of Ukraine was selected to participate in the World Cup, which for the first time in the history of this kind of sports will be held in Kyiv in early October this year. The national team will also take part in the President’s Cup of Ukraine and this year’s World Sports Games.
“Recently, the Federation joined CSIT – the International Confederation of Amateur Athletes and Workers. From now on, Ukraine has the right to participate in international tournaments and host competitions of the highest international level. I am convinced that we will hold the World Hand-to-Hand Combat Championship in Kyiv with dignity. In addition, our athletes will participate in the World Sports Games for the first time. So far, hand-to-hand combat is the only type of martial arts that is represented at such a high international level. I am convinced that the National Team will bring a full set of awards from Italy,” said Ivan Derevianko, Vice President of the Federation.
